Key West’s Little Italy

OK, there’s not really a section of town known as Little Italy in Key West. There is however a doorway worthy of mention at a restaurant where you can grab an authentic Italian meal in the process.

As every other tourist passed with cameras & beers in hand NEVER giving it the time of day, I stopped and took an extra look and WOW… this is a fantastic photo-op. The flag of Italy is tri-color featuring three equally sized vertical panels of green, white, and red. Some have attributed particular values to the colors, and a common interpretation is that the green represents the country’s plains and the hills; white, the snow-capped Alps; and red, blood spilt in the Wars of Italian Independence. A more religious interpretation is that the green represents hope, the white represents faith, and the red represents charity; this references the three theological virtues.

I’ll stay out of the politics of church and state, whichever you believe it makes an AWESOME photo as you can see! You can find this photogenic doorway at 900 Duval Street here in Key West.
