Though not a historical marker or monument, nor official mapped tourist site, it is sadly a Florida Keys oddity! Seen in few states, these signs have become part of tourists vacation photo albums… some for worse reasons than others. I feel for those vacationers who waited all year for their 1-week paid vacation only to have it interrupted by such dames names as “Katrina, Wilma & Irma”. I unfortunately was here for ALL THREE of them, leaving me without electrical power and cold beer for days!
These Evacuation Route & Hurricane Shelter signs are seen throughout the entire Keys on US-1 North on your way OUT of the Florida Keys & Key West. This particular Evacuation Route sign pictured here as you can see is at Mile Marker ?????… darn it, I can’t remember the number on that green sign… I should of written it down!
