A Guide To Historic Islamorada
I wish EVERY city had such a fantastic historical brochure as this for their tourists!
Islamorada created this Heritage Monument Trail brochure along with site markers and descriptive plaques that are located throughout their chain of Islands. Consisting of nearly two dozen sites, this handy full-color mult-fold leaflet is a self-guided tour mapping out the locations and brief history of each.
Islamorada’s history spans more than 3,000 years and represents a fascinating story of nature’s power and human courage in an island paradise.
Today’s Islamorada area was settled in the 1850’s by the Russell’s and their children, who homesteaded 160 acres overlooking the ocean. They planted pineapples, melons and tomatoes. In the 1870’s the Pinders took a land grant in the middle of the island.
You can find this tourists cache of city-packed information located throughout Islamorada at many of the locations detailed within the handout along with the Islamorada Welcome Center.
